Throwback Thursday.. on a Friday

A day for frolic--KEPT in fashion
Fashion of the 1890's featuring the Dickson sisters

Fashion of the late 1890's was influenced by the bicycle.  It was an era of dress reform as women were allowed the opportunity to dress more comfortably to suit their activities.  As attitudes began to change in regards to acceptable activities for women, so did their clothing.

The no fuss tailored shirts adopted from men's tailoring  gave rise.  This shirtwaist tailoring with a high collar was considered appropriate  for informal day wear and the outdoors.  The informal shirt was often paired with a full skirt which was wide at the bottom belted at the waist to accentuate the waist line.
